Miss Puerto Rico

Hi, I am Karla Alicea. I was born in Caguas, Puerto Rico on June 21, 1987. I have lived in Illinois most of my life, but I did get the chance to live in Puerto Rico when I was 13 years old and returned to Illinois when I was 15 years old. I went to school there and made friends for life. I am currently a college student with the ambition to one day be a high school guidance counselor.

Last May I graduated from Harper College with my Associates degree. This fall I am transferring to Ball State University, in Indiana, to finish my major in psychology and minor in interpersonal relations. It took me a while to realize what I wanted to do for the rest of my life, but I would have to say that the help and advise I received from my guidance counselors in high school and college helped me realize that I would like to do the same for teenagers going through that difficult part of their life.

I discovered my patience for children when I worked at Sears Portrait Studio. The best part about my job is that knowing pictures I took were everywhere around the world. I am honored and proud to say that I am the 2008 Miss Puerto Rico.

Junior Miss Puerto Rico

Hello, my name is Destiny Alicea and I am 12 years old. I am currently moving to the 7th grade and will be attending Kimball Middle School. My family and I are from Caguas, Puerto Rico. I am the oldest of 4 children. My mom is Mexican and my dad is Mexican and Puerto Rican; which makes me 100% Latina. I love what my heritage is about.

In the past year, I was in school council, basketball, soccer, and was voted MVP in soccer. I was also voted most responsible in my 6th grade class. I love to play sports, dancing, singing, and being with my family. In order to do all these things my school work must be done; I do this because I know school is first.

My future goals are to become a bilingual teacher and help many young kids to be able to speak Spanish and English. I always will know to pursue my dreams and try to reach my goals. Being the 2008 Junior Miss Puerto Rico will bring me closer to my future life.
